A data driven shopping mall

In April 2017, La Vaguada – the most visited shopping center in Spain – started collaborating with LUCA, Telefónica’s data unit. The objective of the project was to define the best way to compete with online retailers based on better knowledge of the customers visiting their shopping center, and how their main competitors behave. In this way, La Vaguada has improved its knowledge not only of the profile and behavior patterns of its current client, but also what type of clients it is interested in, how they are and where they reside.

The Spain Convention Bureau analizes the Sector in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

The Spain Convention Bureau (SCB) held its Tourism Meeting in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. An annual meeting to analyze the main trends in the MICE Sector, including sustainability at events, management of infrastructures and public spaces, Big Data and measuring the impact of meetings and events. Among other experts, Carlos Martínez, director of business development at LUCA, participated in the round table “Big Data, Internet of Things and Tourism Meetings”, a debate on one of the pillars of employment in tourism municipalities and an important element that helps de-nationalize tourism activity.

Movistar to sponsor the Madrid Half Marathon

The 29th edition of the event takes place on the 8th April 2018, and coincides for the first time with the ProFuturo Run. The elite runners will carry tracking devices that transmit real time information about where they are and how fast they’re going. This will improve the tracking of the athletes and will provide very useful information will LUCA (Telefonica’s “Big Data” unit) can analyze and carry out post-race studies on their pace based on the section of the course, use of refreshments, optimum route etc.

Movistar Team incorporates Internet of Things

From the start of the new season, the Movistar Team will use IoT devices for their cycle teams, both the men’s and the new women’s team, and it will improve the tracking of training. The application of this technology will be used along side data analisis, used by the Spanish cycling team through LUCA, Telefónica’s data unit.
