Solutions to the big data challenge at the UN World Data Forum
The last UN World Data Forum held in Dubai highlighted the challenges of Big Data, emphasizing the need for greater education on the benefits that big data brings to society. Among the speakers, Pedro A. de Alarcón, Director of the Big Data for Social Good area of LUCA, showed the private sectors´ desire and need for better integration with the public sector regarding data issues: calling upon the national offices of statistics to define the methodology and standards by which the private sector should collect data to ensure that it is useful and beneficial to all.

In the “Big Data: Generating value for companies” conference, Elena Gil, CEO of LUCA, highlighted that many important opportunities are being created, “with the most typical roles related to Big Data such as data scientists, data architects or data engineers, but also in something very interesting, because it opens an opportunity for the areas that will use that data but who need training”.

In the 56th Big Data space on Capital Radio, Elena Gil emphasized the important of becoming a data-driven business; to be more intelligent, more efficient and more objective. In particular, she highlighted LUCA’s Big Data for Social Good area, which focuses on contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN for 2030.

Fabián Hernández Ramírez, CEO of Telefonica Colombia, added that “at Telefonica we promote the modernization of the country through the eyes of a company that accompanies business clients on their digital transformation by offering fundamental tools in Cloud, Security, IoT and Big Data solutions. With these products we expect a growth of over 60% compared to the previous year, which represents 20% of the incomes in the business segment”.
