Talent, an obstacle in the implementation of Big Data in Mexico… and around the world
Elena Gil opened the latest TIC Forum Mexico by putting Big Data at the forefront of the digital transformation, emphasizing the need for specialized profiles in this field, “although the potential of Big Data is known, the lack of specialized talent is one of the main barriers to implementing this tool.” Moreover, she recommended that the implementation of Big Data be a decision taken by the senior management for it to be an initiative that will permeate throughout the whole organization.
ProFuturo digital education model supported by Mobile Learning Week 2019
The 8th edition of Mobile Learning Week 2019 will bring together international experts to debate about the opportunities and threats of the use of AI in education (especially in developed countries). In this edition the ProFuturo Foundation will participate as an associate aiming to improve the quality of education for children in vulnerable situations, and will also present “the evaluation of the impact of education programmes: methods and case studies” (the case of EduCaixa and ProFuturo Perú), in a workshop lead by “la Caixa”, ProFuturo and LUCA.

Telefónica has presented its principles reflecting how the company seeks to design, develop and use Artificial Intelligence, a tool that it has been using for years, thus making it one of the first companies in the world to have ethical guidelines that guarantee a positive impact on society. These principles emphasize equality and impartiality, transparency, clarity, privacy and security.
Telefónica organizes the V Conference of the Data Transparency Lab
Telefónica will host the fifth edition of the DTL 2018 Conference at its headquarters in Barcelona, created and promoted by the company to investigate the field of transparency regarding the use of data in the digital environment. During the day tools and winning projects of the call for scholarships of Telefónica 2017 will be presented, and Pedro A. de Alarcón, Director of the Big Data for Social Good area, will announce the launch of a Hackathon to solve challenges related to the transparency of algorithms, used to detect and avoid biases related to Artificial Intelligence.

Solutions to the big data challenge at the UN World Data Forum
The last UN World Data Forum held in Dubai highlighted the challenges of Big Data, emphasizing the need for greater education on the benefits that big data brings to society. Among the speakers, Pedro A. de Alarcón, Director of the Big Data for Social Good area of LUCA, showed the private sectors´ desire and need for better integration with the public sector regarding data issues: calling upon the national offices of statistics to define the methodology and standards by which the private sector should collect data to ensure that it is useful and beneficial to all.

In the forum, organized by the Alberto Lleras Camargo School of Government of the Universidad de los Andes, the participating experts agreed on their digital identity. Elena Gil, CEO of LUCA added that “at this moment there are no excuses not to transform digitally”.
“Technology goes faster than we are able to regulate”
In the VI edition of the e-volution congress organized by El Norte de Castilla, the focus was on issues such as the need for society to accelerate the process of equating technological evolution. Elena Gil, CEO of LUCA, shared her thoughts on how regulations such as the recent one in May by the European Union help limit the use of data by companies, although there is still a need to evolve in terms of transparency and control for «helping to stop what the company can use».
