The Valencia Tourism Foundation, in collaboratoin with EDEM Business School, has celebrated this day where top level experts in the tourism sector together with physisists, mathmeticians and analysts, have spoken about the importance of SIT and of its imminent implementation in small businesses and other companies linked to the tourism world. Miguel Nieto, industry head at LUCA, has participated in the round table to demonstrate the usefulness of the application of Big Data in a city like Valencia, based on specific objectives, in order to advance with more efficient and sustainable management.
Movistar follows the runners of the Madrid Half Marathon
The telecommunications company gave in a presentation for the Movistar Half Marathon 2019, the functionalities of its official application for the live monitoring of the trial and of the ProFuturo Solidarity Race which will run in parralel, putting in the hands of the athletes an app to know in real time their performance and to receive encouraging messages from friends and families. Also, once the test has finished, LUCA will process the data of the participants which will allow each runner to see their own personalised performance statistics, so they can compare them with that of those in their category.
Álvarez-Pallete: “The challenge with the tourist sector is understanding and adapting to the client”
The President of Telefónica, José María Álvarez-Pallete, at the XIX World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) in Seville, has upheld that technology has a fundamental role in the future of the tourist sector and that the main challenge in an industry that is subject to “constant fragmentation” is to know how to “understand and adapt oneself” to the needs of the client. Highlighting the essential role of Telefónica and its digital services, “the virtual and augmented reality”, Big Dara, AI and IoT will be a fundamental part of the tourist experience”.

Currently, 55% of people in the world live in cities, according to data from the UN, which predict that this amount will increase by 13% upon reaching 2050. A phenomenon which poses a great challenge and which also affects Spain. During the forum in Segovia organised by the OMT, the participants highlighted the role of tourism in curbing the depopulation of rural areas. Elena Gil, stated that “Connectivity is critical for the rural environment because it opens up so many possibilities”. With this view, it is the basis for promoting intelligence and data generation to promote sustainable tourism.

In order to influence the need to develop responsible Machine Learning, four expert data scientists from LUCA will give this complete Master Class in interpreting the U-tad models. The experts will talk about the transparecncy of the models and how to interpret them, giving examples of models which are simply to interpret as well as models which are more difficult to interpret, and the dichotomy of the balance between performance and interpretability.
