Big Data for humans: what we call Big Data for Social Good
BIG DATA FOR SOCIAL GOOD
We return the value of data to society
in line with the SDGs for 2030.
In LUCA, we believe that Big Data can be extremely useful in the development of society – which is what we call Big Data for Social Good. For this reason, we use our own internal data together with external data to give back the value of data to the world, contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN for 2030.
There are 6 billion mobile phones around the world and 80% of them are in developing countries. This provides us with a network of social sensors, generating information 365 days a year, 24/7. For example, this allows us to generate insights on natural disasters allowing NGOs and governments to optimize their emergency response. We can also use predict the spread of health pandemics using mobility analytics. Using payment data, we can also create poverty indicators to understand the economic challenges in developing countries. The possibilities are endless.
